The Yule Data

In 1899 G. Udny Yule published what is considered to be the first example of a modern multiple regression analysis in
Yule, G. Udny. 1899. "An Investigation into the Causes of Changes in Pauperism in England, Chiefly during the Last Two Intercensal Decades." Journal of the Royal Statistical Society 62 (Part II):249-295.
The units of analysis are unions (administrative units) in the United Kingdom.  The article does not present most of the original data but Table XIX p. 286 lists the raw data for the 1871-1881 decade for the 32 metropolitan unions.  Means and standard deviations, and zero-order correlations are presented in Appendix, Table 1 & 2 p. 279.  The regression coefficients are in Table C p. 259 (4th row).

Compared to recalculated statistics:

Means are the same.

Standard deviations are slightly different (Yule vs. recalculated):
PAUP 16.2 vs. 16.5;
OUTRATIO 12.6 vs. 12.8;
PROPOLD 9.0 vs. 9.1;
POP 29.8 vs. 30.2.

Correlation coefficients are identical to 3 decimal places except for one big discrepancy (OUTRATIO X PROPOLD, where Yule has 0.167 vs. recalculated value of 0.109).

Regression coefficients are similar, except for nonsignificant coefficient of PROPOLD (Yule vs. recalculated):
CONSTANT 13.19 vs. 63.188
OUTRATIO 0.755 vs. 0.752
PROPOLD -0.022 vs. 0.056
POP -0.322 vs. -0.311

Yule does not test for the significance of coefficients (no t-tests), and the (inverse) measure of fit he uses seems to be the standard error of estimate divided by the standard deviation of Y (PAUP).
